Almost Like Soft-Core Porn

(of the shoe variety).

It may be summer but apparently I want some pre-fall shoes already.

In all fairness, if not in the summer... when can a Vancouverite wear suede?

RC: the death of me.

rachel comey tullamore clog via la garconne

When I first saw the Tullamore in orange suede it made my heart skip a beat. Several, even. But when I saw it in brown... well. It made me reach for my wallet.

But then I stopped myself.

Maybe another day. (Soon).

Party Outfits

via la garconne

Party season is starting --- holidays, birthdays, that sorta thing... and when that happens, the air is crisper and the nights are getting colder. Admittedly, I used to be most excited about Autumn because it meant a new coat. Coats were my reason for looking forward to back to school shopping.

And when I got older, coats were one of the mainstays on wishlists for Christmas/birthday presents. While browsing my new favourite shopping site, I'm seriously considering Rachel Comey's Second Husband Coat. The name alone is worth it. Not convinced? Check out the pictures of the coat... the back of the coat looks AMAZING. Honestly.

But I can't just go to a party/gathering in an awesome coat alone... If I do, I won't have to worry about going to anymore of these shindigs. I won't knock anyone who still swears by a signature LBD but sometimes (really, most times) I think I get more bang for my buck with separates. And now, I find an interesting pair of pants trumps a skirt any day.

But FYI: I would not turn down a printed dress.

I Like Socks

This morning when I was walking to the skytrain, I could see my breath. It's getting cold and when it gets cold, my obsession with cute socks and hosiery gets reignited.

One of my favourite sock designer (yup, doesn't everyone have a favourite sock designer?) is Hannah Byun of Hansel from Basel. Just the right amount of quirk and cuteness.

(And I mean, if she styled these following pictures... I love her even more. Look at picture one! Rachel Comey printed jeans  <3).

sheer knee pads! (I mean, yeah she's famous for the knee pad socks but these ones are sheer!)

Bootie Lovin'

By now, it must be obvious I have some sort of obsession with shoes --- I really do. If I'm not writing about them, I'm probably thinking about them or shopping for them. Or trying my existing collection on just for kicks.

But honestly, a good pair of shoes is definitely an investment. Have I ever told you about my aunt and her awesome collection of shoes? (Well yeah, I mean I talked about it that one time but honestly... I have to show you some of her other shoes... AMAZING). She's got these beautiful Celine stacked pumps that are to die for --- so very simple but so very classic. OKAY, back to my point --- shoes are investments and I'm just thinking of securing my shoe closet for the future :)

Rachel Comey, I forgive you.

via Style.com
I was filling out an application for school and I was talking about how your favourite designers will sometimes let you down with a bad collection. I almost feel that way about RC's SS11 but I reflected and she did a lot of minimalistic looks and that's the equivalent of hating on a white v-neck shirt. Cannot be done.

I guess she spoiled me last SS.

Rachel Comey, stop making porn

(shoe porn, that is).

I used to say that I didn't like shoes anymore than I like other articles of clothing/accessories. But you know, considering most posts are about shoes or allude to them, I won't insult your intelligence: I like shoes. Okay. I love shoes. There. I said it (although, I've admitted it before).

Rachel Comey and I are a team - a super team. She makes beautiful shoes and I buy 'em. I window-shopped my way through many-a-pair and found my favourites for FW10.

RC had a version of the Penpal that was in black croc but the bootie was higher and I just found it a little too much for me. But when done in a shorter boot, it kind of tones down the bling. You know what I mean.

Clogs are okay. But when RC does a clog, I can't help but feel it's allure. I'm so lame. (But c'mon, with the perfect wool socks, in grey, these would be perfect fall shoes!)

 2 words: granny chic.
1 word: penniless. (Me).

Yeah. I have a thing for booties. Also: I can never say no to pebbled leather. Well. Almost never.

Suede is never a good idea but... the heel really got me. Ugh.

I might not be willing to wear head to toe nude but I can definitely wear nude boots. They're muted in the most perfect way, no?

Grandma Chic!

a granny on the bus.

I was contemplating life and the fact I was going to go to bed at 9:09 PM on a Saturday night. So. This is a short post but the picture says it all: when I'm 70, I want to be just that stylish.

Oh. Fall wasn't in February?

dries van noten via style.com
Some people get excited about The September issue; some people get excited about the fall/winter season in February/March. I'm the latter (mostly because I don't read Vogue) mostly because I already saw the collections on the Internet. I remember the initial disappointment I felt when I saw the Karen Walker show --- but I have to focus on the good, right? Yeah.

It has been a few good months since I last thought about fall/winter collections but now it's practically autumn. So, here I am... thinking about the good things.

I never really paid attention to Dries Van Noten and it wasn't until this past year that I slowly notice a secret crush emerging. Now, it's a full blown love. Simple things can be so good. So, so good. And over-sized accessories just makes it all the better. Slouchy grandma pants (you know, the ones with the elastic waist but looks like trousers? What? Doesn't everyone's grandma have those pants...? Maybe it's just my grandma then) are calling my name.

Rachel Comey never fails to make my heart skip. There's something very smart about men's wear turned women's wear designers (look below: Scott Sternberg styles) - it's like, frills aren't necessary (floral prints aren't frilly, okay?). There's always a grandma-chic about Comey's collections and I can always appreciate that. Floral-printed silk pants? Yes, please.

Dear Scott Sternberg,
Sir. Where have you been all my life? You make me want to wear shades of grey from head to toe. I'm guessing this is just the 1st of many women's wear collection. So, so beautiful and perfect.

xoxo,
Steph
